Your property has a National Meter Identifier (NMI) for electricity and a Meter Installation Registration Number (MIRN) for gas. Providing these numbers when you join Energy Locals helps us match your address accurately.

What are NMIs and MIRNs?

These numbers reference your address in the energy market. They are different from your meter number and remain linked to your property, even if your meter is replaced.

Where can you find yours?

You can find your NMI and MIRN at the top right corner of the first page of your Energy Locals electricity and gas bills, respectively.

If you're not with Energy Locals, you should be able to find these numbers in a similar place on your current bills.

Why do NMI and MIRNs matter?

When we switch the billing for your property from your current retailer to Energy Locals, we need a perfect match in the industry operator's systems. Knowing your NMI and MIRN helps us do that.

So the NMI and MIRNs makes everything ok then?

Ideally, yes, but not always. Sometimes, retailers bill customers for the wrong NMI, attaching incorrect meter data to someone else's bill and occasionally switching the wrong customer. We don't want that happening. That's why we use multiple data sources to ensure the match is correct.
